I'm 6' 8" tall. In new money thats around 2 metres. What makes buying bicycles really difficult is my inside leg measurement of 38 "or 97cm. This limits the number of off the shelf purchase options for any kind of bicycle and whilst custom made is always a possibility, these do tend to be expensive. So the outlook for finding a suitable ride would be, difficult but not impossible.
My current rides are (1) Cannondale six with a 63cm frame (see the pictures in the slide show). I'm at the height limit of the seatpost and have 10mm worth of spacers at headset. If I were any longer in the leg, this bicycle would be unsuitable. As it stands, this is all the bicycle I will ever need (2) My trusty steel 65cm Thorn Audax Classic, which is a good winter ride. I'm not even sure these are available anymore as I bought it S/H, but it fits like a glove and the ride is as comfortable as an armchair. Not particularly fast, but i like it for winter use and it has great retro looks, especially now with its metallic purple paint job, and lastly (3) my 26" wheel thorn Sherpa 610XL for touring. Looks a little odd with 26" wheels and a big man atop of it, but its been a great bike for touring.
Other road bikes which I considered at the time of buying the cannondale are the mnodels within the TREK Madone range with 64cm frames. At the time this was limited to the 1.9, 5.3, 5.7 and some of the more pricey custom models.
I looked at custom Van Nicholas, Enigma and others. My conclusion was - I would if I had the money.
Steel frames are realy easy to find in large sizes. A bit costly perhaps, but the likes of Bob Jackson in Leeds will make you something very special.

In conclusion then, it is difficult to find bikes which meet the leg length requirement, but you may find that you are at the limit of reach and saddle height, like I am, which you will find compromises your riding position. I make do with a 63cm canondale frame. I would like a bit more reach but unless you go custom, you cant have everything.
I found some great articles, forums and pages on the internet, so this is obviously a subject which is of intense interest.
